When world is moving towards disaster due to green house effect, we at PE-TRA took the challenge to make our machines greener, more environmental friendly. PETRA Stroji d.o.o, Ljubljana, Slovenia, a Double column Band saw machine manufacturer, is continuously working towards the greener technology and integrating it with existing and upcoming range of Band saw machines.

The most important step, we took towards greener machines, by designing a new hydraulic system, which cuts the energy requirement to just one tenth, than a conventional hydraulics. Our engineers designed the system in such a way, that it makes ON the hydraulic system only during ‘Arm up cum Indexing cycle’ which comprises of 10 sec and may be just 10% (maximum) of total cutting cycle and keep it OFF during the whole Cutting sequence, and therefore it doesn’t consume any energy almost for 90% of the cutting cycle.

Energy conservation effect is also reflected in hydraulic oil temperature, as this new technology keeps oil always at surrounding temperature even after 24x7 working and hence no loss of energy. It also helps to keep the oil quality intact and practically no need to change the oil for years. This new hydraulic power pack circuit drastically reduced the oil tank capacity, just to 8 liters, while conventional designs uses 80 to 100 liters of oil. So less oil used and that too for longer periods, again good for Mother Nature. Our engineers have taken care of even minute losses too, which used to happen in hydraulic tubing’s of conventional hydraulic systems, by rerouting the oil tube paths and selecting the proper hoses to reduce the oil drag to minimum.

PETRA machines also re-engineered the power transmission system, by using high efficiency helical gear box, integrated with AC variable frequency drive, make it most energy conserving cutting machine in 300 mm capacity. It is practically draws less power during high speed cutting than a conventional power transmission system of a metal cutting machine.

We also took a green approach in manufacturing processes, by selecting specific cold drawn materials, which doesn’t need major machining, hence again saving precious energy.

A major step toward clean environment is its chip removal system, which is designed to produce dry chips, keeping synthetic coolant inside. We now recommend our customers to use synthetic coolant, which doesn’t need frequent replenishment and hence good for the environment.  In whole cutting process, over the period of operation, water from the coolant may evaporate, which needs to add the water to keep the concentration of synthetic coolant at a required level.
